Katerina Aggelopoulou

She was born in Athens. Daughter of the director Theodoros Angelopoulos. She studied mathematics at the Imperial College London and collaborated with the UNHCR. She debuted as a scenographer in productions with the National Theatre and the Art Theatre of Greece. She studied scenography at the Central Saint Martins College of Arts & Design in London, while working as a scenographer and costume designer in short films, in the theater and the opera. She was a finalist at the stage design competition for the Lindbury Prize, she collaborated with director Graham Vick and participated in exhibitions at the Royal National Theatre of London, the Barbican Centre, and the Southbank Centre. In 2011 she worked as a scenographer with her father Theodoros Angelopoulos in the film The Other Sea. She worked with Es Devlin in Berlioz’s The Trojans (a co-production of Milan’s La Scala and the San Francisco Opera, London, 2012), and at the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics. She is permanent resident of San Francisco, working between America and Europe. For GNO she edited the setting for the ballet Journey to Eternity (2012/13), choreographed by Renato Zanella, with music by Eleni Karaindrou. // Last update of the biography: March 2013.
