Colin Ainsworth

He was born in Toronto, Canada. He is renowned for his exceptional interpretation, his remarkable diction and his diverse repertoire ranging from Baroque to modern, including worldwide premieres of several works. Among other roles he has interpreted, the following: Tamino [The Magic Flute/Die Zauberflöte], Ferrando [Thus Do They All/Così Fan Tutte], Don Ottavio [Don Giovanni], Belmonte [The Abduction from the Seraglio/Die Entführung aus dem Serail], Count Almaviva [The Barber of Seville/Il barbiere di Siviglia], Ernesto [Don Pasquale], Pylades [Iphigenia in Tauris/Iphigenie en Tauride], Albert Herring [Albert Herring], Lysander [A Midsummer Night's Dream], Nadir [The Pearl Fishers/Les pêcheurs de perles], Tom Rakewell [The Rake’s Progress]. He is frequently giving recitals with works by Schubert, Schumann, Duparc, and Fauré, and has performed the first presentations of numerous new works, notably those by Canadian composer Derek Holman. He has collaborated with symphony and Baroque orchestras in works such as Messiah (Handel), Carmina Burana (Orff) and Requiem (Mozart). At the GNO he performed the role of Orpheus in the French version of Gluck’s opera Orpheus and Eurydice [Orphée et Eurydice] during the season 2006/07. His discography includes, among others, the operas: Castor and Pollux [Castor et Pollux], Griselda [La Griselda] and Lully’s Perseus [Persée].
