He was born in Mexico City in 1970. He studied singing at the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico with Antonio López (1987-1995) and choral conducting with Yorda Ramiro. In the 1995-1996 season, he received a scholarship to study at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. For three years he collaborated with the Mexican National Opera, where he sang important and demanding roles in the tenor repertoire, including: Nemorino (L’elisir d’ amore), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto), Almaviva (Il barbiere di Siviglia). In 2001 he sang the role of Alfredo (La Traviata) and Sir Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) at the Trujillo Theater in Peru. In November 1997, Álvarez won the prize for best interpretation at the Carlo Morelli International Singing Competition in Mexico City. Afterwards, he collaborated with the New Opera in Vienna as well as with the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre, where he sang the role of Michel (Martinů's Juliette) and Fernando (Così fan tutte). Since 2007 he has been performing very frequently at important opera theaters in the Czech Republic and Bulgaria. An important moment of his career was his appearance at Edinburg Grand Opera, where he made his debut as Faust. Since 2012 he has been a soloist at the National Theater in Brno and has sung most of the roles in his repertoire At the Greek National Opera he sang the role of Arrigo in the opera The Sicilian Vespers (2013). // Last update of the biography: October 2023 - The list of productions below is complete.
