Yannis Asteris

Librettist
Born in Vlahiotis, Laconia, Yannis Asteris studied medicine in Heraklion, Crete, and specialised in psychiatry. He has published the novellas I thyella (Indiktos, 2007) and Nouthesia imionou (Indiktos, 2013). He wrote the libretto for Kornilios Selamsis’ opera Leontios and Lena, based on Büchner’s work of the same title (National Theatre of Greece, Athens Festival, 2016), as well as the original libretto for the children’s opera Aorato schini by the same composer (Onassis Stegi, 2022). He translated Aristophanes’ Birds (Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, Onassis Stegi, 2016), Gombrowicz’s Operetta (National Theatre of Greece, 2018) and Aeschylus’ Prometheus Bound (Onassis Stegi, 2021), all of them works performed on stage and directed by Nikos Karathanos, with whom he also co-penned the adaptations.
