Michael Bauer
Lighting designer
He was born in Munich. In 1980 he started working with the Bayerische Staatoper (Bavarian State Opera in Munich), where he was trained as a theatre lighting designer. Since 1998 he is the lighting designer of the abovementioned theatre and he has designed the lighting for the following productions: Tosca, Don Carlo, Die Fledermaus, The Flying Dutchman [Der fliegende Holländer], L’elisir d’amore, Tristan und Isolde, Die Zauberflöte, Boris Godunov, Guillaume Tell, etc. Since 1987 he has worked in other opera houses in Germany, as well as in theatres in Paris, Madrid, San Francisco, Basel and Geneva. Since January 1993 he is teaching lighting courses in the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Munchen. He has also worked with Yannis Kokkos in productions such as Nabucco (Munich) and Don Quichotte (St. Petersburg). During 2012-13 he designed the lighting for the GNO production The Flying Dutchman [Der Fliegende Hollander] which was hosted at the Odeon Herod Atticus and directed by Yannis Kokkos. // Last update of the biography: November 2015
