Leonardo Capalbo

He was born in the USA, the son of Italian immigrants. A trainee of the Juilliard School of Music, The Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara (California), and L’Acadιmie Musicale de Villecroze (France), Capalbo worked under the guidance of the legendary American soprano Marilyn Horne. He made his operatic debut in 2004 as Paco in de Falla’s La Vida Breve for Opera North where he stayed for two years. Further engagements followed at the Israeli Opera (2005), the New York City Opera (2006), the Berlin State Opera and the Opιra National du Rhin in Strasbourg (2007). Since then he has been touring the USA and Europe, singing with famous lyric artists in productions staged by leading directors such as Sir David McVicar, Franco Zeffirelli, Jonathan Miller, Graham Vick and others. His rich, warm voice, stage presence, theatricality and the dramatic tension of his interpretations has already set him apart. His repertoire includes roles such as the Duke in Rigoletto (Leipzig Opera), Fenton in Falstaff, Macduff in Macbeth (Berlin State Opera, Holland Park Opera), Rodolfo in La Boheme (Bordeaux National Opera), Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor (Rhin National Opera, Strasbourg), Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore (New York City Opera), Alfredo Germont in La Traviata (New Israeli Opera, Teatro Carlo Felice), Luigi in Il tabarro, Paco in La vida breve, Narraboth in Salome (Opera North), Ismaele in Nabucco (Saxon State Opera). During the season 2007-08 he sang at the Greek National Opera the part of Rodolfo in La Boheme.
