Jon Clark

Lighting designer
He studied theatre design at Bretton Hall, Leeds University. In the UK he has worked extensively with the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, Young Vic, as well as in the West End and with many other companies. Internationally his designs have been seen at the MET (New York), Sydney Opera House, on Broadway and throughout Europe. He has been nominated for two Olivier Awards for best lighting for Greenberg’s Three Days of Rain and Bartlett’s King Charles III. Designs for opera include: Adès’ The Exterminating Angel (Salzburg Festival, Royal Opera House, MET, Copenhagen), Benjamin’s Written On Skin (Royal Opera House, Aix-en-Provence, Paris, Amsterdam, Vienna, Moscow, New York), Thomas’ Hamlet (Glyndebourne), Chabrier’s L’Etoile (Royal Opera House), Szymanowski’s Król Roger (Royal Opera House, Opera Australia). He has also lit for English National Opera such operas as Wigglesworth’s The Winter’s Tale, La bohème (also Amsterdam), Wozzeck,Glass’ The Perfect American (also Madrid), Glanert’s Caligula and Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria. // Last update: February 2019
