Simon Corder
Light designer
He was born in the United Kingdom. In 1978, he dropped out of school and joined a circus troupe. During the 1980s, he gained experience working on tours with alternative troupes, for which he took photographs and designed lighting, spaces and venues. Over the following 20 years, he became one of the most renowned lighting designers in Great Britain. He has been working with a wide array of stage productions and other installations and has designed lighting in Europe, USA, Australia and the Far East. He has designed the lighting for performances at La Scala of Milan, Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires, National Theater of London, Royal Opera House of London, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía of Valencia, Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, Marseille Opera, Teatro Regio di Parma, Cologne Opera, Wexford Festival Opera, and Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona. He has also designed the lighting for the Singapore Zoo “Night Safari” and the Amsterdam Royal Zoo “Artis” show. He works out of London, UK, and has been awarded numerous prizes. He collaborated with the GNO once, designing the lighting for the production of Thus Do They All [Così fan tutte] (Olympia Theater, 2014-15).
