Eric Cutler

Eric Cutler is a native of Adel, Iowa, USA. He was an alumnus of the Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. He was distinguished at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (1998) and has won the Richard Tucker Award (2005). He made his debut as Romeo (Romeo et Juliette) at the Opera Australia, where he also sang Nadir (Les pêcheurs de perles) and Sir Edgardo [Lucia di Lammermoor] conducted by Richard Bonynge. Cutler was distinguished for his interpretations of the repertoire of Italian romance and especially operas by Mozart. In his Metropolitan Opera, New York debut he sang Fidelio, directed by Jürgen Flimm and conducted by James Levine. Since then, he has often sung there, including roles as Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Andres (Wozzeck) and Arturo (I Puritani) alongside Anna Netrebko. He has appeared in the international festivals of Glyndebourne, Edinburgh and Salzburg, as well as in major opera houses in Europe and the USA, such as the opera houses in St. Louis, Boston, Chicago and Santa Fe, Houston Grand Opera, Royal Opera House London, La Monnaie (Brussels), Teatro Real Madrid, etc. Cutler has recorded for EMI and Naïve labels. He participates in concerts and collaborates frequently with orchestras in the US.
