Director
Born in Ottawa, Canada, he studied English and Drama at the universities of Toronto and London. He is a staff director at the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden, London) and has worked extensively in Britain and Europe. He has directed major revivals for the ROH (Falstaff, Les Vêpres siciliennes, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Macbeth, Fidelio, Un ballo in maschera, L’elisir d’amore, Rigoletto, Così fan tutte, La traviata, Simon Boccanegra / 1881 version, Don Pasquale, Der fliegende Holländer), La Scala, Milan (Lohengrin), Glyndebourne Festival (Owen Wingrave, Kát’a Kabanová, The Makropulos Affair, Tristan und Isolde, Jenůfa), ENO (Parsifal), Teatro dell’Opera di Roma (Die Zauberflöte), Israeli Opera (Jenůfa), ABAO Bilbao (Don Pasquale), Los Angeles Opera (Der fliegende Holländer) and the Canadian Opera Company (Così fan tutte). In 2010 he co-directed Nikolaus Lehnhoff’s production of Elektra at the Salzburg Festival. He recently revived the opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Opera Australia). // Last udate: December 2019
