
John Fulljames
Director
John Fulljames was born in Great Britain in 1976. He co-founded The Opera Group (now Mahogany Opera Group), with the aim to stage rarely presented lyrical works and cooperate with contemporary composers and librettists to develop, commission and produce new operas. As artistic director of the company, he contributed to the production of works such as American Lulu by Olga Neuwirth, The Firework Maker's Daughter by David Bruce, etc. (1997-2011). He also directed a number of works, including Der Kaiser von Atlantis (OTC, 2002), Tobias and the Angel (2004) and The enchanted pig (2007) by Jonathan Dove (Young Vic Theatre, London), Saul (2005), Hänsel und Gretel (Opera North, 2005), Sancta Susanna (Wexford Festival Opera, 2005). He directed the world premiere of the The Shops by Edward Rushton, as well as Roméo et Juliette (2008), Snow White (2008), The Excursions of Mr. Brouček to the Moon and to the 15th Century [Výlety páně Broučkovy] (Opera North , 2010), From the house of the dead [Z mrtvého domu] (2011), La donna del lago (Royal Opera House, London, 2013), Where the wild things are, etc. Since 2011, he is Associate Director of Opera for the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden), London. He has extensive experience of working with communities and young people. His production of the Street Scene for the Young Vic Theatre was awarded with the prize of Best Musical Performance by the Evening Standard Awards.
