Konstantia Gourzi
Conductor
Greek conductor and composer, born in Athens. She started playing the piano at the age of seven. She studied composition and orchestral conducting in Athens and Berlin. She was assistant to Claudio Abbado (Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, 1988/92) and collaborated closely with the Hungarian composer György Kurtág (1993/6). She attended seminars with prominent musicians and composers, receiving several scholarships and awards. She has worked with many orchestras in Greece and abroad, conducting numerous works and her own compositions, whilst founding the ensembles attacca berlin, oktopus, and opus21 musikplus. She taught at the Hanns Eisler High School of Music in Berlin (1999/2007) and has been a professor at the University of Music and Theatre in Munich since 2002. She was the first female conductor to lead the Orchestra of the Greek National Opera (La traviata, 2001). Her compositions have been performed in Germany, France, Greece, Japan, the USA, and Israel.
