César Gutiérrez

He was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and began his musical education at a young age at the conservatory in his hometown. He then took voice lessons with Lionel Villa at the Luis A. Calvo Folklore Academy. He began his professional career as a singer in the Colombian Symphony Orchestra and the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra. With a scholarship, he continued his studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with mezzo-soprano Margarita Lilova. He also obtained a master's degree in opera with Curt Malm and in oratorio / lied with professors Curt Equiluz and Charles Spencer. He made his official European debut in Bergen, Norway, where he sang Macduff (Macbeth). He received rave reviews for this performance. Since then, he has performed at the world's most prestigious opera houses and has worked with distinguished conductors, including Riccardo Muti, Gustavo Dudamel and Armin Jordan. He was honoured with several prizes at competitions and won the gold medal at the Maria Callas International Song Competition in Athens.
