Eva Illes

Eva Illes, of Hungarian origin, was born in 1929. She studied music and singing in Hungary, where she also began her career. In 1967 she went to West Germany and worked for two years with the Stadttheater von Regensburg (1967-1969). She later on worked with the Stadttheater von Freiburg] (1969-1971). She has been a member of the Opernhaus Zürich (1971-1975) and a member of the Staatstheater Hannover (1974-1981). During the period 1981 to 1982, she also sang at the Oper Frankfurt Main. In addition, she has collaborated with Staatstheater Nürnberg (1973-1975), as well as with the Staatsopern von Hamburg und Stuttgart. She was invited to sing at the Royal Opera House London (Senta [Der fliegende Holländer/The Flying Dutchman]), the Teatre Liceu Barcelona (1979) and the Wiener Staatsoper. Her voice’s youthful timbre of a dramatic soprano made her suitable for roles such as Elsa [Lohengrin], Elisabeth and Venus [Tannhäuser], Ariadne [Ariadne auf Naxos], Leonora [Il trovatore], Elena [I vespri siciliani], Turandot [Turandot]. She sang in many operas and theaters in West Germany and Western Europe. She died in Vienna in April 2010. // Last update of the biography: December 2015. .
