Stephen Kakavoulis

Actor, Director, Writer
He was born in Sydney, Australia. In 1997 he graduated from the School of Film Directing of AKMI College and in 2003 from the Giorgos Armenis Higher School of Drama. He has been active as an actor, playwright and director since 2004. Among other projects, he participated in the staging of: Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by G. Livanos; Pessoa's Antinous and The talented Mr. Ripley, directed by G. Diamantopoulos; Kynaston, directed by K. Chatzimichailidis; and Martin Sherman's Bent, directed by D. Karatzias (awarded for this performance). Several of his plays have been staged in Athenian theaters, including: Dionysian Night directed by G. Paloumpis; Greek Mother directed by M. Tzavellas; The Child In Me, Role Plays, Uninvited and The Children of the Father (award for best original script 2013) directed by himself. As a filmmaker, he has directed three short films, the medium-length film Dionysian Night (2010) and the documentaries The Statue of Spyros Louis, Conservation of the Academy of Athens (2009), The Walk of Paraschos and Smoking the Past (2011, participation in the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival 2012). Publications of his also include a poetry collection, five one-act plays based on short stories by Guy de Maupassant and his play The Children of the Father. He is currently working as chief editor of the theatre magazine "Foyer".
