Maria Katsoura
Soprano
She was born in Volos, where she studied violin at the Greek Conservatory under P. Sakellaridis. She then attended viola classes under Yiannis Vatikiotis and monody under Pavlos Raptis, at the Greek Conservatory. After she obtained her diploma, she studied voice under lyric artists Kostas Paskalis, George Zervanos, Galina Pisarenko, Ghena Dimitrova and Antonietta Stella. She was a scholar of the Maria Callas Foundation (1993-1995) and the Alexander Onassis Foundation (1998-2000). In 1996 she won first place in a competition in Moscow for the title role in Alfredo Catalani’s opera La Wally. She has repeatedly appeared in concerts in Greece and Europe and has participated in recordings for the Russian National Radio with the Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theater Opera. In 2006 she participated as soloist in the opera Alceste staged in the Opening Ceremony of the European Artistic Gymnastics Championship. Her repertoire also includes chamber music and oratorios. She has been collaborating with the GNO since 1996 as a soloist, having sung dramatic soprano roles in the productions: Eugene Onegin, The troubadour [Il trovatore], Nabucco, The cloak [Il tabarro], Tosca, etc. She has participated in Volos Center of Musical Theater productions of the operas: Der fliegende Holländer, Tosca and Vivaldi’s L’Olimpiade.
