Maria Kokka
Soloist, Soprano
She was born in Athens. She studied under Yolanda Di Tasso and holds a diploma in solo singing, as well as diplomas in piano and music theory. She is also a graduate of the Athens University of Economics and Business and holds an MA in Business Administration. She continued her singing studies under John Modinos, along with whom she made a number of appearances, television productions and recordings. Her international career began with a starring role in the production of Manon by the Opera of Saxony. She then appeared in European lyric stages in the operas: La sonnambula, Les pêcheurs de perles, L'elisir d'amore, Don Pasquale, Gianni Schicchi, etc., as well as in baroque works and works by Mozart in Germany, the Czech Republic and Poland. She has collaborated, among others, with the symphony orchestras of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT), Athens City and Thessaloniki City. She received acclaim for her participation in the award-winning movie Quartet in Four Movements by Loukia Rikaki, as well as for her collaboration with Polish composer Zbigniew Preisner. She is a specialized vocal trainer at the American College. She has sung the role of Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) in a production by the Thessaloniki Opera (2009-10). During the period 1993-2014, she sang at the GNO the following roles: Mi (Das Land des Lächelns), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Anaide (Il capello di paglia di Firenze), Musetta (La bohème) and Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus).
