Louis Lebherz

Soloist, Bass
He was born in Washington, D.C. (U.S.A.) in 1948. He studied singing at Chapman College of California and at Indiana University with James Low and Armen Boyajian. He made his debut in 1966 Mephistopheles [Faust] at the Opera of San Diego. In 1974 he appeared at the Memphis Opera as Father Guardiano [The Power of Fate/La forza del destino]. Thereafter he performed in opera houses around the United States, South America and Europe, such as: the Metropolitan Opera of New York, the Washington opera, the Frankfurt Opera (1981), the Grand Théâtre de Genève (1988), the Royal Opera House in London and Teatro Massimo of Palermo. During the uears 1984-1985 he worked with the State Theatre in Karlsruhe and during 1985-1986 with the Opera of Bern. In 1994, he appeared in the Opera of Los Angeles as Commendatore [Don Giovanni] and in 1995 as Daland [The Flying Dutchman/Der fliegende Holländer]. He taught voice at Indiana University. His repertoire includes leading and supporting bass roles, such as: Sarastro [The Magic Flute/Die Zauberflöte], Rocco [Fidelio], King Marke [Tristan und Isolde], Fasolt [The Rhine Gold/Das Rheingold], Baldassare [The Favorite/La favorita], Sparafucile [Rigoletto], Jacopo Fiesco [Simon Boccanegra], Colline [La bohème], Don Basilio [The Barber of Seville/Il barbiere di Siviglia], Gremin [Eugene Onegin], Zaccaria [Nabucco] and Diego [The African Woman/L’Africaine by Meyerbeer]. He has recorded the operas Aroldo by Verdi (CBS) and Jone by Petrella (Bongiovanni). He collaborated with the GNO on one occasion, in the role of Zaccaria [Nabucco] (Herodeion, Athens Festival, 1981).
