Irina Lungu

With a voice described by The New York Times as “a shimmering soprano of attractive size” with “brightness”, “bloom and warmth”, Russian Irina Lungu is figuring among today’s leading opera artists. Performances this season have included Gilda (Rigoletto, Opéra Bastille), Fiorilla (Il turco in Italia, Bavarian State Opera), Medora (Il corsaro, Monte-Carlo) and Adina (L’elisir d’amore, Salerno). She has also performed at the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden, London), Vienna State Opera, New York Metropolitan Opera, Teatro Real in Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Arena di Verona as well as in Zurich, Berlin, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Hamburg and Sydney. After completing her singing degree in Voronež with Mikhail Podkopaev, she joined the Academy of La Scala in Milan, where still a student she made her debut as Anaï (Moïse et Pharaon) and where later she performed Marguerite (Faust), Nannetta (Falstaff), Oksana (Tcherevitchki), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), as well as the title roles in Maria Stuarda, Sancta Susanna and La traviata.
