Angela Marambio

Soloist, Soprano
She was born in Viña del Mar, Chile on 26/03/1975. She initially studied at the local conservatory and then at the Music Institute of Santiago. She debuted at the Municipal Theater of Santiago as Micaëla [Carmen]. She won the First Grand Prize at the Francisco Viñas Contest in Barcelona (2002) and the Audience Prize at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition (2003). She debuted in the UK in 2003 at the Welsh National Opera as Mimi [La Bohème], a role she also sang at the New York City Opera. During the period 2003/04 she appeared in Florence as Countess Almaviva [The marriage of figaro/Le nozze di Figaro] and in Barcelona as Fiordiligi [Thus do they all/Così fan tutte]. She made her Metropolitan Opera New York debut also as Mimi (2006) and later on as Amelia [Simon Boccanegra] (2007). She has sung in opera theaters, including: La Scala Milan, Los Angeles Opera, Dresden State Opera, as well as in Munich, Geneva, Valencia, London, and Chicago. Her repertoire includes the Verdian roles of Amelia [A masked ball/Un ballo in maschera], Elizabeth di Valois [Don Carlo], Donna Leonora [The power of fate/La forza del destino] and Desdemona [Othello/Otello]. She has collaborated with conductors Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Fabio Luisi, Daniel Oren, Gianandrea Noseda, etc. She appeared at the GNO once, as Maria Boccanegra [Simon Boccanegra] (Athens Concert Hall, 2007/08).
