Elijah Moshinsky

Director
Australian director, he has enjoyed a long and prolific career in opera and theatre. He studied at the University of Melbourne and St Antony’s College in Oxford. He made his Royal Opera debut (1974/75) directing Peter Grimes and continued with Lohengrin, The Rake’s Progress, Macbeth, Samson et Dalila, Tannhäuser, Otello, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Attila, Simon Boccanegra, Stiffelio, Aida, I masnadieri and Il trovatore. He also worked with leading theatres worldwide such as English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, La Scala (Milan), Metropolitan Opera (New York), Vienna State Opera, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Mariinsky Theatre (St Petersburg), Los Angeles Opera, NCPA Beijing and Korean National Opera. In theatre, Moshinsky has directed for the National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company and West End. For his productions of Lohengrin, Stiffelio and The Rake’s Progress he has three times been the winner of the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Opera.
