He began his studies at the Conservatory "Niccolò Paganini" in Genoa and concluded his singing training in Milan. He mad ehis debut as Rodolfo [La bohème]. He excelled in leading tenor roles, primarily in operas by Verdi and Puccini, such as: Alfredo Germont [La traviata], Duke of Mantua [Rigoletto], Pinkerton [Madama Butterfly], Cavaradossi [Tosca], Ismaele [Nabucco], Manrico [The Τroubadour/Il trovatore], Riccardo [A Masked Ball/Un ballo in maschera], Gabrielle Adorno [Simon Boccanegra], Canio [Pagliacci], but also as Don José [Carmen]. In 1988, he participated in a tour of Milan's La Scala to Japan, during which he interpreted the roles of Rodolfo [La Bohème] and Calaf [Turandot]. In 1989, he was chosen by Herbert von Karajan to replace Plácido Domingo in a production of the opera A Masked Ball [Un ballo in maschera]. In 1995, he sang at La Scala the leading role in Pagliacci, under the direction of Riccardo Muti. He performed in several cities around Italy and Europe. In addition, he developed considerable activity in the field of concert performances. He collaborated with the GNO on one occasion, interpreting the role of Maurizio [Adriana Lecouvreur] (1991/92).
