Sophia Padouvaki
Set Designer, Costume Designer
She was born in Athens. She studied decoration and interior design in the TEI of Athens and set design at the University of Arts and Design in Helsinki. She also has completed postgraduate studies in set design/costume design for opera and ballet performances (Milan's La Scala, Academy of Performing Arts in Prague) as well as in stage design (Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design). She is a professor of Stage Design at the University of the Arts London and post-doctoral fellow of the Greek Scholarships Foundation in costume design. She has also received scholarships from the European Union and the Friends of Music Association. She has participated in exhibitions in Milan, London, Utrecht, Paris, Athens and the Prague Quadrennial (1999). She has designed and curated exhibitions for the GNO, the Athens Festival, the Thessaloniki Film Festival, the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation and the Foundation of the Hellenic World. She has collaborated with the Athens Concert Hall, the Athens and the Epidaurus Festivals, the Cairo Opera House and Milan's Teatro La Scala. She has won the awards for set design and costume design at the Drama Short Film Festival (2005). She is a professor at TEI Athens, the Dept. of Theatrical Studies at the University of Peloponnese and the Graduate program at Harokopeion University. She has also taught as guest professor in universities abroad, while she has extensive research activity. She has designed stage sets in numerous theater, opera and dance productions, both in Greece (NTNG, the Athens Festival, various Regional Theater Groups, dance groups) and abroad (Milan, London, Cyprus, Helsinki, Edinburgh, etc). For the GNO, she designed sets and costumes for the ballets Return to the Future and From Broadway to Hollywood (1998-1999), Raimondo (2000-01) and Sleeping Beauty (2001-02) and the operetta Remember those Years (2007-2008).
