Zoe Papadaki

She was born in Egypt. She made her career abroad. In 1962 she went to Milan for postgraduate studies. She won distinctions in singing competitions in Parma (1963) and Busseto (1964). Her first appearance was in Florence in 1964, replacing Fedora Barbieri in the opera Il Trovatore, under the direction of Gianandrea Gavazzeni. She has performed in th US, Israel, Italy, Germany, Spain and in opera houses in the former Czechoslovakia. Her repertoire includes, among others, roles in the operas Aida, Norma, The Power of Fate (La Forza del destino), Werther, as well as the mezzo-soprano roles in Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle and Verdi's Requiem. Recordings of her performances in the opera Zaza by Leoncavallo (RAI recording, 1969) still survive. She collaborated with GNO in two productions, performing leading roles: Gioconda in the namesake opera (1959) and Abigaille in Nabucco (Herodeion, 1960).
