Dimitri Platanias
Soloist, Baritone
He was born in Kalamata, Peloponnese, Greece. He got a guitar degree (under Giannis Mavreas) and a singing diploma (under Maria Marketou) from the Municipal Conservatory of Kalamata. He also studied English language and literature at the University of Athens. He continued studies in Italy under Masako Tanaka Protti (2000), on an Alexandra Triantis scholarship. He practices together with Aris Christofellis since 2004. He made his professional debut in Italy as Gérard [Andrea Chénier]. He has appeared in major operas such as: Teatro La Fenice Venice, Frankfurt Opera, Teatro Verdi Trieste, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos Lisbon, Bregenz Festival and London’s Royal Opera House. His repertoire includes the roles: Barnaba (La Gioconda), Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Gerardo (Gianni Schicchi). He has collaborated with London’s Royal Orchestra, the Orchestra of Colours (Athens), the State Orchestra of Athens and the Thessaloniki State Orchestra. In the 2004/05 season, he debuted at the Greek National Opera as Xerxes (Marathon - Salamis) and Marcello (La bohème). Since then, he has participated in at least 20 productions and/or revivals of numerous lyrical works, in such leading baritone roles as: the title role in Rigoletto, Lord (The Masterbuilder), Amonasro (Aida), Giorgio Germont (La traviata), the title role in Nabucco, Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana), Tonio (Pagliacci), Baron Scarpia (Tosca), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Guido di Monforte (I vespri siciliani), Count di Luna (Il trovatore), Xerxes (Marathon - Salamis by Pavlos Carrer), Valentin (Faust) etc. // Last update of the biography: December 2015 - The list of productions below is complete.
