Mina Polychronou

She was born in Volos. She studied at the Municipal Conservatory of Volos with the Lena Stamoulis and Yannis Karkalas and at the Athens Conservatory under Meni Charalampidou, acquiring a diploma in opera singing (1989). On a scholarship by the Onassis Foundation, she continued her studies at the Music Academy of Sofia, then went on to Milan where she studied under Vincezo Scalera, Carla Castellani and Maria-Luisa Cioni in Milan and, subsequently, to Vienna to further her studies under Sena Jurinac and Ileana Cotrubas. She earned a degree in harmony, counterpoint and fugue. She holds a senior title in voice singing by the College of Music in London. In 1993 she won the 2nd prize in an international competition in Tortona (Italy). Since 1993 she has sung at the GNO in at least 30 productions and/or revivals such roles as Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail), Fox (The Cunning Little Vixen/Příhody lišky Bystroušky), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Naiad (Ariadne auf Naxos), Violetta (La traviata), Micaëla (Carmen), Shepherd (Tannhäuser) etc. She sang in the Greek operas, The Shadowy Waters, The Master Builder, Marathon-Salamis, The Fugitives of the Chessboard, The Manuscripts of Manuel Salinas, The Possessed, Karyotakis, etc. She worked with Greek state and municipal orchestras and the ensembles Feminarte and Intrarti. She has appeared at the Athens and Thessaloniki Music Halls, Thessaloniki Opera, Onassis Cultural Center, Ancient Stadium of Delphi, Ancient Theater of Epidaurus, Odeon of Herodes Atticus. She has also sung with the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg, "I Solisti Veneti", the "Composers Ensemble" in London, as well as in Dresden, London, Milan, Odessa and Trieste.
