Petra Reinhardt

Costume designer
Born in Germany, she was already working as a costume assistant at the Munich State Opera, when she studied at the Deutsche Meisterschule für Mode, Munich. As an assistant she worked for the operas in Stuttgart, Hamburg, Augsburg, Bonn, Frankfurt, as well as at the Schiller Theater (Berlin), Teatro San Carlo (Napoli), Opéra national du Rhin (Strasbourg), Teatro São Carlo (Lisbon), and Spoleto Festival (USA), to name a few. Convinced that designing costumes longs for a complete knowledge of the whole Métier, she expanded her experience in the area of stage design, make-up and hair design and she worked as actress and assistant director. She has worked with distinguished directors such as Klaus Maria Brandauer, William Friedkin, Johannes Schaaf, Chen Shi-Zheng. She has also branched out in fashion design creating garments and accessories in which she connects her diverse theatrical experience and her sophisticated aesthetic. In recent years she teamed up with Robert Carsen, creating costumes for acclaimed works, such as The Magic Flute, Les Fêtes vénitiennes, CO2, Don Carlo, La Fanciulla del West and L’Orfeo. // Last update: May 2019
