Costume designer
Milan-born fashion and costume designer, he studied in New York, where he lives and works today. He garnered fame across Europe and for his theatre costumes. In his first-ever work for the stage, he designed the costumes for Luca Ronconi’s Peer Gynt in Rome. He first started working with Robert Wilson in the mid-1990s. In Germany he designed the costumes for Wilson’s stagings of Brecht’s Der Ozeanflug (Berliner Ensemble, 1998), The Days Before and POEtry (Hamburg), as well as Dr. Caligari (Deutsches Theater, Berlin).In 2003 he designed the costumes for Wilson’s collaboration with Herbert Grönemeyer on Büchner’s Leonce und Lena at the Berliner Ensemble, where he returned in 2005 for Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale. In 2016 he was costume designer for Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea at Teatro alla Scala in Milan. In 2017, he worked with Martin Zehetgruber for the sets and costumes of Harold Pinter’s The Birthday Party at the Salzburg Festival. // Last update of thr biography: February 2022.
