Penny Rizou

Soloist, Contralto
She was born in Melbourne, where she studied pedagogy. In Greece, she completed her voice studies at the Athenaeum Conservatory under Marina Krilovic. She received the Athanasios Karabatsos First Music Prize (Australia, 1990) and the John Apeitos Second Prize (Australia, 1989). She attended perfection lessons under soprano Mirella Freni. She appeared in Cyprus alongside singer Mariza Koch, performing the song cycle The mermaid travels little Alexander [I gorgona taxidevi ton mikro Alexandro]; at the University of Melbourne Union Theater, in the opera The rake's progress; and, at the Arts Centre Melbourne in the oratorio Saul. She is a voice and orthophony teacher at the Elefthero Conservatory. She is a member of the GNO Chorus since 1997. She has sang in the operas: The beggar's opera (1996/97), The Cloak [Il tabarro] (1999/2000), Le grand macabre (2003/04), Tosca (2006/07), Pagliacci and Rigoletto (2009/10).
