Carmen Rouggeri

Actress, Script Writer, Director
She was born in Kallithea, Athens on 01/08/1938. She studied singing at the Hellenic Conservatory, as well as theater at the Art Theater Drama School; also took special studies in opera at the University of Perugia, Italy. As an actress, she has participated in performances of the National Theater, the GNO and the Free Theater. She participated in nine television series. In 1985, she founded the theater troupe Rakosyllektes (Scavengers), serving as its stage director and screenwriter. She wrote plays for children and a series of six episodes for television. She wrote, adapted and/or directed plays for the National Theater, the theaters Horn, Kivotos (Ark), Pireos 131, the Athens College Theater, the Municipal Regional Theaters (DIPETHE) of Corfu and Rumeli, and the Athens Concert Hall. Most of her plays have been staged in tours throughout Greece. Her adaptations of plays and operas have been staged at the Herodeion (1997-2006). Her works are also presented in school performances. She taught theater play at the National Theater Children's Stage (1996-2006) and Kivotos Theater. She founded the National Theater Children's Stage in 1993 and the GNO Children's Stage in 1996. Since then and until 2010/11, she arranged, wrote prose texts and directed several works for the Children's Stage, such as: Bastien and Bastienne [Bastien und Bastienne], Cinderella [La cenerentola], Hansel and Gretel, The magic flute [Die Zauberflöte], Kiss me [Filise me], The Tale of Tsar Saltan, The Freeshooter [Der Freischütz], The barber of Seville [Il barbiere di Siviglia], Orpheus and Eurydice [Orfeo ed Euridice], etc. She is married to GNO baritone Andreas Kouloumpis. She directed the GNO productions of the opera Thus do they all [Così fan tutte] (1995/96) and the musical Kiss me, Kate (1996/97).
