Inés Salazar
Soloist, Soprano
She was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1964. She started her vocal studies in Venezuela and continued in the Conservatorio di Castelfranco Veneto A. Steffani in Italy. At the early years of her career, she won the first prize in the Mario del Monaco competition in Treviso and the Maria Callas competition in Cosenza (1990). She made a name for herself by singing roles in operas by Verdi and Puccini. She made her professional debut as Amelia [A masked ball/Un ballo in maschera] in Cosenza. She has performed at major opera houses in Europe and the USA, such as Teatro alla Scala (Donna Leonora in The power of fate [La forza del destino]), Deutsche Oper Berlin (in the title role of Tosca), Bonn State Opera, Teatro dell Opera di Roma, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Washington National Opera [Manon Lescaut], Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, etc. She also sang in the Missa Solemnis under the baton of Sir Colin Davis, at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. She was engaged for the title role of Norma in Santiago (Chile), Tel Aviv, Rome and Karlsruhe. She repeatedly appeared as Aida in various cities worldwide. She has performed the title role in Tosca in major opera houses in Europe, the USA and Japan. Moreover, in 2000, during the 100-year anniversary of the opera Tosca, she participated in the festive new production of the Teatro dell’ Opera di Roma, under the baton of Plácido Domingo, directed by Franco Zeffirelli, alongside Luciano Pavarotti (as Cavaradossi) and Joan Pons (as Scarpia). She has also sang comprimario parts in the operas Il trovatore, Macbeth, Ernani, Norma, La forza del destino. She worked with the GNO once, performing the title role in the opera Tosca (1998-99).
