He was born in Murano, Italy on 13/07/1949. He studied the piano and singing in Venice under Cecilia Sacchetti and perfected his technique under the tutelage of tenor Arrigo Pola. He stood out in many international singing contests and first appeared in Italian opera houses such as: the Fenice in Venice, the Petrocelli theatre in Bari, the Royal Opera of Rome, the Royal Theater of Turin (Teatro Regio), the Arena Verona, the Massimo Bellini Theater in Catania, the Arena Sferisterio in Macerata, the Carlo Felice Theater in Genova etc. He first performance at the Scala of Milan was in 1976 and in the opera Luisa Miller conducted by Gianandrea Gavazzeni. His repertory includes a minimum of 55 leading roles and centers on the style of Italian verismo (Italian realism). He appeared in various important theatres and opera stages such as the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Vienna State Opera, the Grand Theater de Liceu in Barcelona, the Colon Theater in Buenos Aires. He also sang in Tokyo, Madrid, Chicago, Marseilles, Seoul, Strasbourg, Belgrade, Amsterdam, Tel Aviv, Budapest, Washington, Hamburg, Paris, Bilbao, Caracas etc. He worked with distinguished conductors such as Carlos Kleiber, Riccardo Muti, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Alberto Zedda, Bruno Bartoletti, Riccardo Chailly, Giuseppe Patané, Nello Santi, Marcello Viotti etc. His repertory includes the roles from the operas L' elisir d'amore, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Tosca. Andrea Chenier, Rigoletto, Macbeth, La fanciulla del West, Un ballo in maschera and Pagliacci. He died in the Italian town of Pianiga on 21/11/2006. He appeared twice at the GNO in the years 1997/98: in the role of Nabucco [Nabucco] and as Don Carlos di Vargas [La forza del destino].
