Giorgos Samartzis
GNO Chorus Member, Tenor
He was born in Athens and studied piano and voice at the National Conservatoire. In 1983 he attended perfection lessons under Nicola Rossi-Lemeni and Boris Christoff, and later under Carlo Bergonzi and Magda Olivero. In recent years he practices together with Greek baritone Louis Manikas. He has appeared on stage and dance movement performances. He starred in three world premieres of new lyrical works at the Athens Concert Hall. He gives concerts and performances in Greece and abroad, and has recorded works by Greek and foreign composers. He has made live appearances on radio and television in many parts of the world. He won a prize in Korea in 2006, performing arias and opera excerpts. He is an oral language coach with the Seventh Act Theater Company (Etairia Theatrou Praxi Epta). He has been working with the GNO since 1986, at first as chorister and later as soloist, performing minor roles in 17 operas in about 25 productions and/or revivals: Don Riccardo (Ernani), Matteo Borsa (Rigoletto), Spoletta (Tosca), Dr Caius (Falstaff), Captain of the Crossbowmen (Simon Boccanegra), Abbé de Chazeuil (Adriana Lecouvreur), Don Curzio (Le nozze di Figaro), Desirè and Baron Rouvel (Fedora), Dr Blind (Die Fledermaus), Beppe (Pagliacci), Parpignol (La bohème), Abdallo (Nabucco). // Last update: December 2018 - The list of productions below is continually updated.
