Aris Sfakianakis

Soloist, Tenor
He was born in Heraklion, Crete. He began his musical studies in his native city, where he was also a member of the Municipal Youth Choir. He continued his studies at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin attending singing lessons under Paul Deegan, and piano under Deirdre Doyle. He completed his studies at the Hellenic Conservatoire under Effie Adilini-Bobis and graduated with a diploma in opera singing, with honors and first prize; he also obtained degrees in counterpoint and fugue under Panagiotis Adam, at Nakas Conservatory. He took monody lessons under Mechtild Stamataki, focusing mainly on renaissance and baroque repertoire and song cycles. He attended composition courses under Theodoros Antoniou, stage presence lessons with Sergios Vafeiadis and acting with Sofia Kakarelidou. He collaborated with the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT) Choir, the Mixed Choir of the Municipality of Athens, the Fons Musicalis choir, etc. He conducted choirs at the Athens Concert Hall, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Epidaurus Ancient Theater, Lycabettus theater, as well as in various other theaters in Greece and abroad. As a pianist, he participated along with the Alpha Band in the Going Youth Festival (Roes Theater, 2007), as well as in the Spyros Sakkas’ Vocal Art Workshop. Since 2011 he relocated in Heraklion, teaching monody in conservatories and conducting various choirs. He worked as soloist with the GNO Children's Stage, singing the roles of Count Almaviva [The barber of Seville/Il barbiere di Siviglia], Nemorino [The elixir of love/L'elisir d'amore] and Max [The Marksman/Der Freischütz].
