Yevhen Shokalo
Soloist, Bass
He studied at the Kiev Conservatory (1981-1986). He won an award at the 1984 Ukrainian opera singers contest. In the period 1993-1998 he appeared regularly at the National Opera House in Kiev, South Bohemia Theater in the Czech town of Budejovice, Prague State Opera and Janček Opera in Brno. He has sung in numerous countries, including France, Belgium, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Germany, North Korea, Canada, Austria, Poland, Croatia and Japan. His repertoire includes the roles: Il Commendatore [Don Giovanni], Sarastro [The Magic Flute/Die Zauberflöte], Dr. Dulcamara [The elixir of love/L' elisir d'amore], Mefistophele [Mefistophele], Abimélech [Sampson and Delilah/Samson et Dalila], Filippo II [Don Carlo], Heinrich der Vogler [Lohengrin], Boris Godunov [Boris Godunov], Gremin [Eugene Onegin], Boris Timofeyevich Izmailov [Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk district], Padre Guardiano [The force of destiny/La forza del destino], Le Bailli [Werther], Daland [The flying Dutchman/Der Fliegende Holländer], Bartolo [The marriage of Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro], Don Pasquale [Don Pasquale], Zaccaria [Nabucco], Don Basilio [The barber of Seville/Il barbiere di Siviglia], Timur [Tourandot], Sparafucile [Rigoletto], Konchak [Prince Igor], Luther, Crespel [The tales of Hoffmann/Les Contes d'Hoffmann]. He collaborated with the GNO once, singing the role of Vodnik (the water Goblin) in Rusalka (Olympia Theater, 2008/09).
