
George Souglides
Set Designer, Costume Designer
He was born in Cyprus. He studied interior design and set design in London. He has collaborated with prose theaters and operas in Greece and Europe. As an associate designer, he has worked with Britain’s Royal Ballet, the Opéra de Paris and the Metropolitan Opera New York. His set designing work includes, inter alia, the operas: Offenbach’s Barbe-bleue in the Bregenz Festival; Maria Stuarda and Le nozze di Figaro at the Grange Park Opera; Semele, in Buxton Festival; Aida and Così fan tutte at the Scottish Opera; Arianna in Creta and Der Freischütz for the Dutch National Touring Opera; and, La traviata and Don Giovanni, in Northern Ireland. For the National Theater of Northern Greece, he designed the sets for the works: Aristophanes’ Peace (2005, Ancient Theater of Philippi), Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme and Arcadia (2004, Theater of the Society for Macedonian Studies). He worked as a set/costume designer with the Cyprus Theater Organization (The Quarrel, 2012/13). For the Greek National Opera he has worked as a set and/or costume designer in the productions L'elisir d'amore, Haris Vrondos’ The Possessed, Serse, Orfeo ed Euridice, Il prigioniero and La vida breve (staged together), Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci (staged together in 2010/11 at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Così fan tutte, Carmen and Jenůfa. // // Last update of the biography: March 2020 - The list of productions below is continually updated.
