He was born in Mytilene in 1915. He began his professional career collaborating with the Art Theatre of Carolos Coun, designing sets for most performances staged by Carolos Coun during the period from 1940 to 1960. In 1950 he also began collaborating with the National Theatre of Greece. He collaborated with the Art Theatre of Carolos Coun, the National Theatre of Greece and the National Theatre of Northern Greece for over 500 productions. After being awarded in an international competition (1951), he visited the United States of America where he studied scenography and lighting techniques (1952). He also worked with the Opera of Thessaloniki and important free theater groups. Later on, he was successfully engaged in other collaborations, which allowed him to be tried in different kinds of halls, works and stage management approaches. He worked as a scenographer in various Greek cinema films (1959-1963). He was a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece (EETE). He taught scenography at the National Theatre of Greece Drama School. He was distinguished for the simplicity of his solutions, the functionality of structures, his sensitivity and disciplined imagination. Since 1959, as a technical director at the Greek National Opera, he organized and managed the Technical Department, directed the scenography workshops and organized for the first time invaluable photographic files. During the period from 1958 to 1995 he designed sets and costumes for 43 operas, 2 operettas and 5 ballets in 184 productions and production revivals: Nabucco, Andrea Chénier, Ariadne auf Naxos, Ernani, Così fan tutte, Eugene Onegin, L' italiana in Algeri, Madama Butterfly, Boris Godunov, Queen of Spades, Rigoletto, La traviata, Norma, Tourandot et al. Several of these were premieres of important works from the institution. He also work as a scenographer for the Belgrade, Klagenfurt (Austria), South Africa and Holland State Operas. // Last update of the biography: December 2015 - The list of productions below is continually updated.
