Balint Szabo

He was born in Transylvania, Romania. He graduated from the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in 1997. He also studied at the International Vocal Arts Institute in New York and Israel Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv. In 1998 he excelled in the Vocal Competition of Bucharest. He was a staff member with the state operas of Hungary (Cluj-Napoca, 1990-95), Romania (1996 onwards) and Hamburg (2003-05). As a staff member of the Oper Frankfurt in 2005-09, he sang feature bass roles in the operas: Don Giovanni, Faust, La bohème, Macbeth, Simon Boccanegra, Nabucco, Lucia di Lammermoor, A Masked Ball [Un ballo in maschera], Don Carlo and The Sicilian Vespers [I vespri siciliani]. His international appearances include Italy, Switzerland, Great Britain, Israel, Chile, Belgium, Spain, France, Hungary and US. He has sung at major opera houses: La Scala Milan, Royal Opera House London, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona and Palais Garnier Paris. His repertoire includes lead and feature roles, such as: Zaccaria [Nabucco], Philippe II [Don Carlos], Sparafucile [Rigoletto], Méphistophélès [Faust], Sarastro [The Magic Flute/Die Zauberflöte] , Wurm [Luisa Miller], Don Fernando [Fidelio], Bluebeard [Bluebeard's Castle/A kékszakállú herceg vára], etc. He has collaborated with important conductors and opera directors such as Herheim, Pizzi, Decker, Clément, etc. He collaborated with the GNO twice, singing the roles of Jacopo Fiesco [Simon Boccanegra] (Athens Concert Hall, 2007/08) and Sir Giorgio [The Puritans/I puritani] (Athens Concert Hall, 2008/09).
