Born in Mexico, he is considered as one of the leading tenors of our time. After winning the Altamura / Caruso International Voice Competition in Milan, he completed his vocal studies at Vienna State Opera and in Italy with Rodolfo Celletti. He made his international debut in 1992 as Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) at the New York Metropolitan Opera, while one year later he debuted as Fenton (Falstaff) at La Scala, Milan, under Riccardo Muti. He now regularly performs to great acclaim at all the major opera houses all over the world: Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), ROH (Covent Garden, London), La Scala (Milan), New York Metropolitan Opera, Teatro Real (Madrid), Opéra Bastille (Paris), San Francisco Opera, Vienna State Opera, Arena di Verona. He is also an accomplished concert singer, with an extensive repertoire ranging from Italian classical songs to romantic German Lieder and melodies by French, Mexican and Spanish composers from the 19th and 20th centuries.
