He was born in Hamburg. He studied voice training under Naan Pöld at the Hamburg Music Academy and furthered his studies with Ugo Ugaro Garbaccio in Paris. He made his debut while still a student, as Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro" (Pforzheim, Germany). Initially he was a member of the Bielefeld Opera Company (1986-94). In 1991 he sang at the grand opening of rebuilt Frankfurt Opera . Subsequently, he was recruited from the Cologne Opera (1995-2001). There he performed numerous roles, such as: Faust (Faust), Schaunard (La bohéme), Steersman (Tristan und Isolde), Nero (Νerone of Boito), Dancaïre (Carmen), Falstaff (Falstaff), etc. Since 2001 he works as a free lance soloist. He has sang as a guest soloist in opera houses in Zurich, St. Gallen, Stuttgart, Bonn, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Kiel, Mainz, Barcelona, Paris, Sao Carlos, Turin, Toulouse, Baden-Baden , Dortmund, Berlin, Ferrara, Turin. He has also sang in opera productions at festivals such as: Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, Beethovenfestival Bonn, Wiener Festwochen, Seefestspiele Berlin. Michael Vier sang under the following conductors: Leonard Bernstein, Jeffrey Tate, Marcello Viotti, Lothar Zagrosek, Ingo Metzmacher, James Conlon, Donald Runnicles, Daniel Harding, Jiri Beholavek His repertory also includes the roles: Leporello (Don Giovanni), Papageno (The Magic Flute/Die Zauberflöte), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte), Melot and Kurwenal (Tristan and Isolde), Donner (The Gold of the Rhine/Das Rheingold), Sharpless (Madama Butterfly), Page (Lohengrin), Harlekin (Ariadne in Naxos/Ariadne auf Naxos), Memfistofele (Faust), Escamillo (Carmen), Gunther (The Twilight of the Gods/Götterdämmerung) etc. At the GNO he appeared once, as Kurwenal [Tristan and Isolde] (Athens Concert Hall, 2014-15). // Last update: February 2015
