
Maria Vlachopoulou
Soloist, Mezzo-Soprano
She was born in Thessaloniki and studied singing under the guidance of Despina Kalafati at the National Conservatory of Athens, graduating in 2001 with honors and first prize. She attended seminars in interpretation by Ghena Dimitrova, Herman Prey, Costas Paschalis, Fragiskos Voutsinos, Helen Karuso, Gabriella Ravazzi, Sergio Magli and James Robert Carson. Vlachopoulou has worked with the Orchestra of St. Martin in the Fields, as well as with all Greek orchestras, singing in opera evenings and/or oratorios, such as Vivaldi’s Gloria, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Bach’s Magnificat, etc. She sang roles from the operas La vida breve (Grandmother), Il barbiere di Siviglia (Berta), Il Campanello (Madama Rosa), The medium (Madame Flora). She worked with the Athens Concert Hall in Richard Strauss’ Elektra and the Thessaloniki Concert Hall in the operas Rigoletto (as Giovanna, 2002), Lucia di Lammermoor (as Alisa, 2004, directed by Renata Scotto), Il trovatore (as Ines, 2005) and Manos Hadjidakis’ Oi Ornithes [The Birds] (2004). She has taken part in the Manolis Kalomoiris Festival on Samos island, as well as in the Nafplion Festival and the Greek Music Celebrations of the Athens State Orchestra. She has made recordings for the Greek National Radio and the Disney label. With the GNO, she has performedin such productions as La vida breve, Mavra, Cavalleria rusticana etc. // Last update of the biography: November 2015.
