Włodzimierz Zalewski

He was born in Lodz, Poland on 01/03/1951. He studied at the Vocal and Acting Department of the State Higher School of Music in Łódź, under professor Zdzisław Krzywicki, obtaining diploma with honors in 1976. He has won many vocal competitions and won prizes and distinctions. He has worked at the Great Theater - National Opera in Warsaw and the Great Theater in Łódź, the Grażyna and Kiejs¬tut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź and the Frédéric Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. He has sung more than 50 leading bass roles including: Gurnemanz [Parsifal], Dutchman (Der Fliegende Holländer), Zaccaria (Nabucco), Attila (Attila), Philip the Second (Don Carlos), Walter (Luisa Miller), Fiesco (Simon Boccanegra), Scarpia (Tosca), Don Pizarro (Fidelio), the title role in Boris Godunov, Prince Gremin (Eugene Onegin), Creon (Oedipus Rex) and the title role in Don Giovanni. In addition, his repertory includes oratorios and masses by Bach, Hendel, Mozart, Rossini, et al, as well as many song cycles by Shubert, Shuman, Mussorgsky, Wolf and more. He has sang in the world premieres of works by the foremost Polish composers (Krzysztof Penderecki, Elżbieta Sikora and others). He has appeared in Poland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and The Netherlands. He has collaborated with renowned conductors and directors and has recorded numerous works. He has been a jury member and often head of jury, at many singing contests. He has been teaching since 1980, while since 2004 he conducts masterclasses in Music Schools for young singers in Poland as well as abroad. His students have won many prizes at international competitions and sing in major opera houses worldwide.
