Elsie Zavitsanou

In GNO print programs she is referred to as Ersi Zavitsianou. She was born in 1940. She studied decoration, stage design and costume design in the Vakalo Art & Design College, Athens (1968-1970), under Giorgos Vakalo and Panayiotis Tetsis. She then continued studying painting and engraving. Her main subjects in painting and engraving are drawn from theater stage designs and costumes. She has presented her work in a solo exhibition (Polytechno, 1982) and has participated in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad: 12th (1973) and 13th (1975) National Art Exhibition in Greece; Cleveland International Drawing Biennale, England (1983); Biennial of Engraving, Salamanca, Spain (1992); Modern Greek Engraving, Municipal Cultural Center of Athens (1995). A work of hers is exhibited at the National Gallery, Athens. She is a member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece. She worked with the GNO from 1972 to 1993 as a set designer and costume designer on the production of the ballets Night on Bald Mountain and La bayadère, as well as in the production of the operas La bohème and Madama Butterfly. // Last update of the biography: March 2016 - The list of the productions below is continually updated.
