Maria Zoe

Soloist, Mezzo-Soprano
She was born in Athens and raised in Trikala. Initially she had musuc studies at the Municipal Conservatory in Trikala. At an early age she took part in the “3rd Panhellenic Children’s Sing Competition” and won 1st prize. She also won 1st prize at the Panhellenic Music Games organized by the Ministry of Education (1999). In the year 2000 she recorded her first personal album with songs by Mikis Theodorakis (Legend) and in 2011 she participated in the concert “A Century of Greek Song” with the Orchestra of Colours (Herodeion). In 2005 she received the “Arion” award for her participation in the album “Twelve+1 looks at the Dodecanese” (LYRA) next to Yannis Parios, Glykeria, and others. In 2007/08 she was a resident singer with the Mikis Theodorakis Popular Orchestra and sang his songs in concerts across Greece. In 2008 she collaborated with Maira Farantouri in the production Women’s Myths (Mythoi Gynaikon) all around Greece. She studied piano and music theory as well as monody and melodrama at the Acropolis Conservatory under tenor Zachos Terzakis (diploma with honors, first prize and gold medal, 2009), as well as. She continued her studies in Berlin (2011-2012) under Dagmar Schellenberger and Anneliese Fried. During her studies she sang roles in operas by Mozart and operettas by Johann Strauss. She attended masterclasses under Cheryl Studer, Hedwig Fassbender and Daphne Evangelatos. She has collaborated with major music ensembles, such as the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra, the City of Athens Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra of Colors. She is also a graduate of the School of Communication and Mass Media of the University of Athens and speaks English, French and German. She appeared as Second Apparition in GNO’s production of Macbeth (2013/14) and as Flora in La Traviata (2014/15).
