He was born in Kazan of the Republic of Tatarstan. He graduated from the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory in Alma-Ata (class of Professor Serkebaev) in 1997. Since 2003, he is a principal performer of the Mariinsky Theatre of Russia. His repertoire includes roles, such as: Pollione (Norma), Ismaele (Nabucco), Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Don Carlo, Mario Cavaradossi (Tosca), Don José (Carmen), Samson (Samson et Dalila), Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos), Lensky (Eugene Onegin), Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Manrico (Il trovatore), Alfredo (La traviata), Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Luigi (Il tabarro), Alfred (Die Fledermaus), Prince Yuri (Charodéyka), Herman (The Queen of Spades), Vasiliy Golitsin (Khovanshchina). In 2007 he made his debut in the Metropolitan Opera in New York as Siegmund (Die Walküre). He has sung the Requiem of Verdi, Mahler's Eighth Symphony, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, etc. He has collaborated with conductors, such as Gergiev, Temirkanov and Rozhdestvensky, and has appeared in theaters and festivals worldwide.
