Giannis Benetos

Giannis Benetos was born in Athens. He graduated from Niki Kontaxaki’s Private Higher Professional & Amateur School of Dance and the Danshögskolan Stockholm. During his career he worked with the Niki Kontaxaki dance company. He has interpreted lead male ballet roles including: Romeo & Juliet, Swan Lake, Moor’s Pavane, La fille mal gardée, etc. He worked with the GNO from 1995 to 2009, participating in ballet soirees as well as in eight ballets: Don Quixote, Giselle, Pinocchio, La Cenerentola, Paquita, Zorbas, The Damned Snake and La Bayadère. He has furthermore participated in ballets interwoven through the operetta Die Fledermaus, the musical Kiss me Kate, and the operas Marathon-Salamis, La serva padrona, Carmen (Odeon of Herod Atticus, 2006/07), Tannhäuser (Athens Concert Hall, 2008/09). During the presentation of choreographies by the GNO dancers in An Evening with the Young Choreographers of the GNO Ballet-DanceBox, he presented his choreographies More than black or white (What the…?) (July 2013) and VII/D.S. (September 2014).
