Director
He was born in Strasbourg, France, on 4/10/1966. He studied at the Conservatoire National de Strasbourg and was a violinist of the Strasbourg Philarmonic Orchestra. In 1988, he became assistant to the director Nicolas Joe at important opera houses all over the world, and he has reconstructed at least 35 of his productions, including the operas Romeo and Juliet [Romeo et Juliette] (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden) and Lucia di Lamermoor (New York Metropolitan Opera). In 1989, he was hired as an assistant director at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, and from 1996 to 1998 he was collaborating director and production manager at the same company. In America, he directed for the first time at age 29 a production of Falstaff in the Spoleto Festival, Charleston (USA). He has directed, among others, the operas: Romeo et Juliette, L'elisir d'amore, Lakmé, Le Roi de Lahore, La bohème, Luisa Miller, Rigoletto, Cavalleria rusticana, Carmen, The Queen of Spades, Thais, La Juive, Tosca, Otello, Werther, Il trovatore. He has directed productions at important opera houses, including Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Verona Arena, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, in various cities, including Amsterdam, Marseille, Nantes, Saint Petersburg, Helsinki, Lausanne, Tokyo, Bilbao, St. Gallen, and at festivals such as the Beijing International Music Festival. At the GNO, he directed the opera The Magic Flute [Die Zauberflöte] (2010-11). He also directed the opera Thais at the Athens Music Hall [""Megaron""] (2008-09).
