Jean-Christophe Charon

He obtained a diploma in piano, chamber music and accompaniment, studying at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux and the Boulogne-Billancourt Conservatory of Paris; he also received a diploma in advanced music theory and orchestration from the National Superior Conservatory of Paris. He also majored in orchestra conducting and acquired a master's degree with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in London, studying under Colin Metters. He attended orchestra conducting seminars by Sir Colin Davis, George Hurst and Ilya Musin (London), Lothar Zagrosek (Siena), Salvador Mas Conde (Vienna) and Jörg Bierhance (Vidin, Bulgaria). He has appeared as a chamber music pianist in Europe and Taiwan. As a pianist, he has accompanied seminars by leading singers and musicians. Since 2006 he works as a conductor, often with the Thessaloniki State Orchestra, the City of Thessaloniki Symphony Orchestra, the Athens State Orchestra and the GNO Orchestra. He has worked with the Thessaloniki Opera and Thessaloniki Concert Hall. He has taught, inter alia, chamber music at the State Conservatory of Cergy (Paris, 2000-05) and at the Rencontres Musicales d'Arcachon seminar (France), as well as at the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki and the New Conservatory of Thessaloniki. In 2007 he conducted Carl Orff’s opera The Wise Girl [Die Kluge] at the Thessaloniki Opera. Since 2014 he collaborates with the Opera Department of the Berlin University of the Arts. He collaboration with the GNO includes conducting the children's opera Little Red Riding Hood by Seymour Barab’s (GNO Children's Theater, 2012/13) and the opera Thus do they all [Così fan tutte] (Theater Olympia, 2014/15).
