He was born in Berlin, where he started working for the theatre in 1971. From 1976 to 1994 he worked as a lighting designer in different theatres in Germany, such as at the Freie Volksbühne Ber lin, Hallesches Ufer, Hamburg Schauspielhaus, Cologne Schaus pielhaus and Thalia Theater, Hamburg. From 1994 to 2005 he worked as lighting designer and Head of the Lighting Department for the Berlin State Opera. Since then he has been working freelance. He has collaborated with prestigious opera houses, among others in Amsterdam, London, Oslo, Glasgow, Vienna, Brussels, Paris, Hamburg, Tokyo, Stuttgart, Dresden and Beijing, as well as with the Salzburg, Bregenz and Innsbruck festivals. He has also designed lighting for the Deutsche Oper and the Komische Oper, Berlin. This is the first time he works with director Nikos Mastorakis and the Greek National Opera.
