Misha Didyk
Soloist, Tenor
He was born in Khmelnitsky, Ukraine. He was a member of the Choir of the Red Army. He studied at Kiev’s National Academy of Music with the People’s Artists of the USSR Vassily Tretiak, Z. Lichtman and Eugenia Miroshnichenko, and the People’s Artist of Ukraine Vladimir Timokhin. After graduating in 1991, he continued his studies at the Bastille Opera, as well as with Anna Maria Bondi. He began his career at Kiev’s National Opera of Ukraine in 1994, when sang La traviata, Eugene Oniegin, Rigoletto, Dama Pika. Appearances followed at the Bolshoi Theater (1997), the Mariinsky Theater (1998) and the National Opera of Finland (1998, 1999/2000). In 2005 he appeared for the first time at the Milan Scala and the San Francisco Opera. He distinguished himself in roles of the Russian repertoire, singing at important opera houses in Europe (Denmark, Seville, Gothenburg, Liege, Marseille, Avignon), in the US (San Francisco, Philadelphia, Michigan, New York) and at Israel’s New Opera. His repertoire includes the roles of Herman [Dama Pika], Charles VII [Tchaikovsky's Maid of Orleans ], knight des Grieux [Puccini's Manon Lescaut ], Cavaradossi [Tosca], Werther, Rodolfo [La Bohème], Pinkerton [Madame Butterfly], Carlo Moor [Verdi’s I Masnadieri], Duke of Madua [Rigoletto], Riccardo [Un Ballo in maschera], Alfredo [La traviata] e.a. Didyk has collaborated with top international opera artists. He won the Taras Shevchenko State Award in Ukraine in 1998 and was declared People’s Artist of Ukraine in 1999. A limited but increasing number of records of his are available. He appeared at the Greek National Opera once, interpreting the role of Mario Cavaradossi in Tosca in 2006/7).
